Will your child benefit from the Cochlear Nucleus Implant System?

If your child was born with severe to profound sensorineural* hearing loss:

  1. Does your child fail to respond to your voice or loud sounds even when wearing a hearing aid?
  2. Does your child avoid or have trouble socializing or playing with other children while using hearing aids?
  3. Is your child falling behind with key speech and language developmental milestones while using hearing aids?

If your child was born with normal hearing and has progressively lost hearing:

  1. Is your child falling behind with speech and communication skills?
  2. Does your child depend heavily on lip-reading?
  3. Is your child exhausted at the end of the day from concentrating so hard to understand speech at school?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions and your child is at least 9 months old, your child may meet the qualifications for a cochlear implant. Schedule an appointment with a Hearing Implant Specialist Opens in new window.

* In the United States, the cochlear implant system is intended for use in children 9 to 24 months of age who have bilateral profound sensorineural deafness and demonstrate limited benefit from appropriate binaural hearing aids. Children two years of age or older may demonstrate severe to profound hearing loss bilaterally. In Canada, the cochlear implant system is intended for use in children 12 to 24 months of age who have bilateral profound sensorineural deafness and demonstrate limited benefit from appropriate binaural hearing aids. Children two years of age or older may demonstrate severe to profound hearing loss bilaterally.
