What is Piezo Power™ technology?

Piezo Power is the name we gave to the transducer in the Osia implant. While older electromagnetic technology is used in all other bone conduction systems, the Osia System is the first active bone conduction implant to use piezoelectric technology. This drives the system’s excellent hearing performance, delivering clear sound focused at the mid to high frequencies important for speech.4

The power to hear more

The Piezo Power transducer delivers enough power to address a wide range of hearing losses, with a fitting range of up to 65 dB HL.* This provides room if hearing loss changes over time. It also creates a wide dynamic range, which amplifies soft sounds while loud sounds stay crisp and clear.5

Tuned to the high frequencies

One of the many advantages of the Piezo Power transducer is its ability to vibrate at high frequencies.4 This means that in some of the most difficult listening situations, like a noisy restaurant or a busy classroom, you can still hear voices in conversation with crisp clarity.6,7

Surgery Day

What to expect at surgery

The Osia implant is the thinnest active bone conduction implant available,1-3 and it is fixed to a stable osseointegrated (fused to the bone) implant backed by decades of published clinical research.8

The procedure may take as little as 30 minutes,9 and most people can go home the same day. There is no requirement for a preoperative CT scan, and the surgery likely won’t cause any loss of the remaining hearing you may have in your ear.

MADE TO LAST

Industry-leading MRI access

Many people need an MRI scan at some point in their life. Of active bone conduction implants, only the Osia OSI300 Implant enables you to undergo high-resolution MRI scans at 1.5 and 3.0 Tesla strengths without having to worry about your implant being damaged, and in most cases without the need for any additional surgical procedures.^,1-3

Here are a few things to know about getting an MRI with the OSI300 Implant. Always check the user manual for your specific implant type.

Inform your imaging center

You’ll need to inform your imaging center if you have any medical implants (including the Osia implant) prior to getting an MRI. Medical professionals will check requirements and make preparations for a safe and comfortable scan.

Remove your sound processor

You’ll need to remove your sound processor during the scan. However, no surgical procedure is required to remove the implant or its magnetic cartridge in the majority of cases.^

Visibility for diagnosis

Your Osia implant will not create shadows or interference should you need MRI on any part of your body other than your head. Any metallic implant creates some shadow during MRI, but because our transducer does not contain a magnet, the shadow is smaller compared to electromagnetic hearing implants.12

Consistent long-term performance

Unlike electromagnetic implants, the piezoelectric design means MRI scans do not affect the Osia implant’s performance over time.13,14

Demonstrated reliability

The Osia System has shown excellent reliability over years of data,10 with a 10-year warranty.
