Tell us a bit about yourself
After four years as a Marine Corps technician in electronics and computers, I experienced sudden hearing loss in my right ear in 1998. By 2004, I had no hearing in that ear and began losing hearing in my left. By 2020, I understood only 50-70% with my hearing aid. After extensive internet research, I found an excellent surgeon and was implanted with a Cochlear Implant in May 2024 and was activated a month later. I chose Cochlear for its experience, technology and reputation.
I was fortunate to understand speech immediately. After months of rehabilitation, my streaming comprehension became nearly normal, though I still struggle with noise, multiple conversations and poor acoustics. My Cochlear Implant has transformed everyday tasks like phone calls, shopping and doctor appointments. Most importantly, I can now connect with my family, especially my grandkids, in ways I couldn't before.
I enjoy learning online, streaming shows, reading and playing with my dog. During COVID, before my implant, I used the internet to gain deep knowledge about hearing loss and cochlear implants. With my background training technical and non-technical personnel, I can mentor potential cochlear implant candidates and answer their questions.
