Cochlear Americas Announces the FDA Approval of Nucleus® 6 and Launches New Technology Exchange Program

Centennial, Colo., (September 5, 2013) – Cochlear Americas, the global leader in implantable hearing solutions, announced today that the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the Cochlear™ Nucleus® 6 Sound Processor for use in the United States.

Nucleus 6, the next generation cochlear implant sound processor for Cochlear, is built on a completely new microchip platform with five times the processing power of the market-leading Nucleus 5. It also includes a wide range of new design features, two choices in remotes, the industry’s first data logging capability and a comprehensive five year warranty for new implant recipients. Each Nucleus 6 Sound Processor recipient will also receive the Nucleus CI24RE Implant, the most reliable in the industry. In fact, it has improved the hearing of over 90,000 people around the world with a remarkable 99% reliability rating at 8 years.1-3

Cochlear plans a full commercial launch of the Nucleus 6 Sound Processor on September 30. In the interim, there will be a Technology Exchange Program for anyone who chooses a Cochlear System today. The program allows new Nucleus 5 recipients to exchange their Nucleus 5 Sound Processor(s) for Nucleus 6 Sound Processor(s) at no additional cost upon availability of the product
