Cochlear announces availability of the Cochlear™ Baha® 5 Power and Baha 5 SuperPower; two new powerful bone conduction sound processors

23 June, 2016

Cochlear Bone Anchored Solutions AB, the global leader in bone conduction hearing solutions, announced today the commercial availability of the Cochlear™ Baha® 5 Power and Baha 5 SuperPower sound processors. This completes the Baha 5 Portfolio, the industry’s largest and most powerful portfolio of bone conduction sound processors.1

The Baha 5 Power and Baha 5 SuperPower Sound Processors are designed for people with greater levels of hearing loss, with a fitting range up to 55 dB sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) for Baha 5 Power and 65 dB SNHL for Baha 5 SuperPower.

Baha 5 family

Largest and most powerful portfolio

The Baha 5 System is a portfolio of bone conduction products designed for people with conductive hearing loss, mixed hearing loss and single-sided sensorineural deafness (SSD).

Baha 5 System

  • Baha 5 Sound Processor: This was the first sound processor of the system, launched in 2015, and is the industry’s smallest bone conduction sound processor. It is the implantable hearing industry’s first Made for iPhone hearing device, and has a fitting range up to 45 dB SNHL.
  • Baha 5 Power Sound Processor: Newly announced, this processor features the same smart technology first released in the Baha 5 Sound Processor but is designed for those who need additional amplification. It has a fitting range up to 55 dB SNHL.
  • Baha 5 SuperPower Sound Processor: Newly announced, this smart sound processor is the industry’s most powerful head-worn bone conduction sound processor with a fitting range up to 65 dB SNHL.

Each sound processor provides people with the ability to hear better in noisy and challenging environments, and connect wirelessly to a variety of electronic devices such as smartphones. All three can be connected to the implant with either an abutment system (the Baha Connect System) or a magnetic system (Baha Attract System).

Smart connectivity

The Baha 5 System provides the implantable hearing industry’s only smart processors which can stream directly from iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. Users also have access to Cochlear True Wireless™, a range of products to further improve hearing in challenging environments.

To make it easy to control their hearing experience, users can download the Baha 5 Smart App to their smartphone. The industry’s first Smart App allows advanced control of the sound processor and wireless accessories, further personalisation and support directly from compatible iOS devices.

Sound clarity in all environments

Baha 5 Sound Processors are designed to help people experience clearer, crisper sound and understand speech, even in noisy environments. The key to the sound experience are two technologies working together to automatically deliver a clear sound signal in all environments. The BCDrive™ transducer that powers the sound processors produces clearer sound with less distortion, while SmartSound® iQ signal processing automatically selects the appropriate settings based on the listener’s sound environment. Whether at work, at home or in a noisy restaurant, the recipients will get the best possible signal without having to think about.

“This portfolio isn’t just about great hearing. It’s about giving more people great hearing.” said Rom Mendel, General Manager of Cochlear Bone Anchored Solutions AB. “The Baha 5 sound processors use the same industry-leading technology, but with boosted power levels to benefit people with more severe degrees of hearing loss. And with Made for iPhone support they suit users’ lives.

“We are very pleased to announce the full commercial availability of the Baha 5 Power and Baha 5 SuperPower Sound Processors to complete this portfolio.”

The two new devices are available in Europe, the US, Australia and New Zealand.

About bone conduction systems

Bone conduction systems are a proven medical option for adults and children with conductive hearing loss, mixed hearing loss, and single-sided sensorineural deafness meeting the candidacy criteria. While a hearing aid tries to push sound through the damaged part of the ear, bone conduction systems bypass the damaged area and send sound directly to the inner ear. They are designed to help those who receive little or no benefit from hearing aids hear and communicate more effectively.
