Tell us a bit about yourself

Interesting note - apparently, we are the only married couple in Canada where both partners are bilateral Cochlear Implant recipients. Our first language is English and we both also know basic American Sign Language (ASL.)

Our journeys are quite similar as both our hearing losses became significant and challenging by the time we reached high school. Hearing aids became very ineffective for us as we aged - so much so that we both took early retirement in 2015 & 2016. A few months after retiring - Debbie got the first Cochlear Implant followed by Jeff in 2018. We both got our second side three days apart in December 2020. Simply put - getting implanted was absolutely life changing for us!

We are both active individuals and like to hike, snowshoe, travel and cycle. Fitness classes and workouts are also an important part of our lives. Prior to retirement we were heavily involved in the sports of dog agility and slo-pitch.

Between us we have a wealth of knowledge and are uniquely positioned to answer all types of questions from aspiring cochlear implant recipients and their loved ones. We have gone through the process a collective four times!
