Anders Tjellström Scholarship

The Anders Tjellström Scholarship is a unique award open to Baha System recipients in the United States and Canada. Awarded by Cochlear, this scholarship has been set up to help individuals further themselves by undertaking university studies.

The Work of Anders Tjellström, M.D., Ph.D.

Anders Tjellström is an ENT with the Department of Otolaryngology at the Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Tjellström's docotral work at the University of Gothenburg brought him into contact with Professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark, a pioneer in the field of osseointegration, in 1972. In that same year, Tjellström and Brånemark collaborated to treat the first patient with a Baha System. Ever since his first patient, Tjellström has worked tirelessly to restore hearing to thousands of people around the world.

Who is eligible for the program?

  • Scholarship applicants must have a Baha® device.
  • Available to spring 2017 graduating high school seniors.
  • Undergraduate or graduate students that have applied or will be enrolled in the 2017/2018 school year at an accredited college, university or technical school.
  • Scholarship applicants must receive a 2.5 GPA or better to enroll for and maintain the scholarship.

When does the scholarship application process start?

Scholarship applications are currently available.

When is the deadline to apply online?

Your application must be submitted online no later than September 30, 2017. Mailed applications are not accepted.

What is the value of the scholarship award?

  • Scholarship value is $2,000 per year for up to four years, assuming the scholarship recipient maintains a 2.5 GPA or better.
  • Scholarship is paid in annual installments on the completion of each year of study.

How are winners selected?

  • Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic achievement and a demonstrated commitment to the Cochlear ideals of leadership and humanity.
  • The final scholarship recipients are selected by a Scholarship Selection Committee of hearing healthcare professionals.

How will the winners be notified?

  • Winners will be notified via email and mail of the Scholarship Selection Committee's decision.
