MRI Can Range In Strength From 0.2T To 7.0T With 1.5T Being the Most Common.

Cochlear has nearly 20 years of experience and was the first to introduce the key safety feature of removable magnet to ensure recipient safety and comfort. With Nucleus implants, if needed, the magnet is easy to remove from the top of the implant with a small incision without having to move, lift or excessively manipulate the implant. In the rare case that a recipient needs serial MRIs, a no-magnet option is available.

Image Artifact In Cochlear Implants

Figure 1 shows an MRI scan of a cochlear implant recipient with the magnet in place. Figure 2 shows an MRI scan of the implant recipient with the magnet removed. As shown in Figure 1, the implant magnet creates a large blur on the image, hindering an accurate diagnosis. Magnet removal reduces the blur on the image signi cantly, causing minimal interference with the diagnosis.5


MRI Splint And Bandage Kit Instructions:

Cochlear’s Profile CI500 and CI24RE Series implants are approved for MRI scans at 1.5 Tesla without having to surgically remove the implant magnet. To help prevent discomfort or dislodgement of the implant magnet during an MRI scan, which some people may experience, we have also made available the Cochlear™ Nucleus® Implant Bandage and Splint Kit for MRI (MRI Kit).
