Learn about the benefits of bone conduction implants
Find out if a bone conduction implant can help your child
Every child is different and so is a child’s hearing loss. Perhaps your child is deaf in one ear or was born with Microtia or Atresia. Or perhaps they suffer from chronic ear infections or constantly draining ears and have hearing loss. Maybe they've tried hearing aids and are still struggling to hear. If your child has conductive hearing loss, mixed hearing loss or single-sided deafness, a bone conduction solution may be able to help.
Does your child qualify for a bone conduction solution?
All of our bone conduction solutions are designed to help children who suffer from single-sided deafness, conductive or mixed hearing loss. Children under the age of five are able to gain access to sound through the use of a Softband or SoundArc™ with a Baha® 5 Sound Processor; these are non-surgical bone conduction solutions. If your child is over the age of five years old, they may qualify for a Baha® Implant System, and if they are over the age of 12, they may be eligible for the Cochlear™ Osia® System.
Conditions like Microtia and Atresia, Down Syndrome, Treacher Collins Syndrome, Goldenhar Syndrome and ear infections can make wearing hearing aids difficult.
A Hearing Implant Specialist will be able to advise if your child may benefit from a bone conduction implant. Find one today.
Will your child benefit from a bone conduction implant system?
The good news is that research and decades of experience demonstrate that a bone conduction implant system may help your child:1-5
Hear better, even in noisy situations2
Enjoy a clean, more natural sound because bypassing the damaged part of their ear may reduce the amount of amplification needed to help them hear better compared to hearing aids2
Hear sounds as if they are coming from both sides
Become more aware of their surroundings, increasing his or her ability to hear important sounds4
Engage in conversations more easily.

The Cochlear™ Osia® Implant System is the world's first integrated, steady-state implant system that was designed to provide excellent and reliable hearing performance. The Osia System is an ideal hearing solution for children over the age of 12 and has a fitting range of up to 55 dB SNHL.*
The Baha® 5 Implant System offers different ways to connect with a bone conduction implant system using the same implant. The Baha ® Connect System is an abutment connection, and the Baha Attract System is a magnetic connection. Each system offers three head-worn sound processors for hearing loss up to 65 db SNHL* and are designed using Cochlear’s innovative technology so your child can benefit from better hearing today and into the future.
Are there bone conduction solutions that don’t need surgery?
Yes! If your child is not yet ready for a bone conduction implant, or is under the age of five, they can experience better hearing with Baha Start. Baha Start offers two non-surgical wearing options if your child is not old enough or not yet ready for surgery.
The Baha Softband and SoundArc are non-surgical solutions that are designed to provide children under the age of five with the hearing performance and amplification they need to help with language development on par with their hearing peers.6,7 Both solutions are designed to provide the same hearing benefits and will work with any of the Baha 5 Sound Processors.
Experience a Cochlear Bone Conduction System
With a bone conduction system, your child has the unique advantage of hearing the difference first. A Hearing Implant Specialist can help him or her try (or demo) a sound processor so they can hear how it might sound before you make any decisions.
