Frequently asked questions
How is a hearing implant different than a hearing aid?
Hearing aids may be an effective option to treat hearing loss. However, as hearing loss progresses, it may become difficult to understand conversations, even when using powerful hearing aids. This is when a cochlear implant or bone conduction implant may be a more effective solution because they bypass the parts of the ear that aren’t working.
Can I speak with someone else who already has an implant?
Yes, you can connect with others who have been exactly where you are and want to help. They know what you’re going through and want you to know you are not alone. Make a connection with one of our Cochlear volunteers.
Are cochlear implants covered by insurance?
Unlike hearing aids, cochlear implants are typically covered by Medicare. They are also covered by many insurance plans and typically Medicaid.*
How do I find a hearing implant specialist in my area?
To find out if you’re eligible for a hearing implant solution or get your questions about your current options answered use our Clinic Finder to find a specialist in your area.
