Cochlear's Global Hearing Ambassador and cricket legend, Brett Lee, appeared on the Today Show to officially launch the awareness campaign Sounds of Cricket™ in Australia.

Brett was interviewed alongside Austin Philip, a 15 year old bilateral Cochlear implant recipient and Austin's mum Sheeba, who works with one of Cochlear’s clinical partners, Royal Institute of Deaf and Blind Children.

Austin is the star of a campaign video for Sounds of Cricket - a global campaign to raise awareness of hearing loss and treatments for hearing loss, such as cochlear implants. The initiative aims to raise awareness of the medical, social and economic benefits improved hearing can bring.

Almost 120,000 Australians aged 45 and over are estimated to be at risk of severe to profound hearing loss – but just 3% are getting treated . As part of the Cochlear Sounds of Cricket campaign, people can visit soundsofcricket.com to access online hearing loss checklists and information to find out if they, or their loved one, might be experiencing hearing loss. If people wish to seek professional advice, they can use the website to find their nearest hearing health professional.

  • The Today Show segment aired on Channel Nine at 8:50am Saturday 23 January.
