Sound Processor: Nucleus 6, 2013
“I treat my processors like diamonds,” says Faye Yarroll. “I never want to go back to the silent world. Getting my cochlear implants was life changing and the best thing I have ever done.”
After first receiving a cochlear implant in 2005, in 2011 Faye was selected to trial Cochlear’s most advanced hearing solution – the Cochlear™Nucleus® 6 System – and she loved the improved hearing she achieved.
“The features of the Nucleus 6 are great, especially the SmartSound iQ®,” says Faye. “It really helps in everyday listening situations without the need to change programs or touch the remote.
“My hearing has never been better. The biggest benefit is I don’t have to think about where I am going or what I am doing, the processor adjusts automatically.
“If I move from sitting at home to a noisy restaurant, the processor automatically adjusts, which is a great feature not only for me, but especially useful for children or the elderly. Every second of your day your processor is automatically scanning the environment you are in and adjusting your programs for you.”
“After getting my Cochlear Implants I did not want to go swimming (and didn’t for many years) because I did not want to go swimming 100% deaf and not be able to hear what is going on around me. Well that has now changed, I can now go swimming using my processors with the Cochlear Aqua Accessory Case and enjoy swimming once again. Since getting my aqua accessories, I have enjoyed a social chat at the local swimming pool and have met some lovely people as well which brings my experience alive once more and it’s no longer a silent and lonely trip. I also wear my processors from the minute I get up in the morning until last thing at night, so if I am caught out in the rain, then I know my processors will be fine until I get back home. Even during the very hot summer we have just had, and when my hair got a little wet with perspiration after working outside in the garden or cutting my grass, I have not had any problems with moisture since getting my Nucleus 6 processors.”
“My cochlear implant processors are the most precious things in my life.”
