Frequently asked questions

Answers to some frequently asked questions about Cochlear™ Nucleus® Aqua Accessory reusable.

  • What is the reusable Aqua Accessory?

The reusable Aqua Accessory is a soft, flexible plastic enclosure with a zip lock seal designed to hold a Cochlear™ Nucleus® CP800, CP900 and Freedom® series BTE sound processor, coil and coil cable to allow CI users to participate in water based activities.

  • Is the reusable Aqua Accessory waterproof?

Yes. The reusable Aqua Accessory has achieved an IP68 ingress protection rating in 4 metres of still water for 2 hours. Cochlear also performed extensive “real life” testing to simulate bathing in soapy water and swimming in chlorine or salt water. It is likely that in humid locations some condensation will occur inside the reusable Aqua Accessory. This is normal and expected.

  • Which processor(s) is it compatible with?

The reusable Aqua Accessory is designed to work with CP800, CP900 and Freedom processors with rechargeable batteries only.

  • Why can't I use Zinc Air batteries?

Zinc Air batteries require air to remain active and will not work inside the reusable Aqua Accessory because the reusable Aqua Accessory is air tight.

  • How is the reusable Aqua Accessory used?

The reusable Aqua Accessory is a reusable* plastic pouch that completely seals in your processing unit, cable and coil. The reusable Aqua Accessory must be tested prior to use, to ensure that it is free from damage. The processor can then be worn behind the ear in the normal BTE position. If vigorous activity is anticipated, it is recommended that the user use a retention device such as swim cap or goggles or a safety line.

*The reusable Aqua Accessory must be tested for any damage prior to each use. Details on how to test can be found in the Instructions for Use. On average, the reusable Aqua Accessory will be suitable for 20 uses.
