Volunteer Advocates

A network of support

Most of our Nucleus® Cochlear implant recipients or Baha® implant users start their journey by reaching out to someone who has had a similar experience with hearing loss. It’s often a great benefit to learn from someone who understands and has been through this same experience and our Volunteer Advocates are here to help.

Advocates with a Nucleus®      Advocates with a Baha®

All our advocates are fully trained* and work within their local community supporting individuals by answering questions, dispelling myths, allaying fears and helping individuals to have a better understanding of the implant process.

The more knowledge you have the more power you have in making good decisions for you or your family. Advocates can offer guidance and share their experiences from the time of assessment, to implantation, all the way through to rehabilitation

Real People, Real Experiences

Could our Volunteer Advocates help you or someone you know? Our Volunteer Advocates reach out to candidates, existing users and their families and will:

  • Offer to share their implant journey, knowledge and experiences
  • Give emotional support
  • Listen with understanding
  • Be respectful and confidential
  • Provide a compassionate and caring approach
  • Put you in contact with support groups and hearing loss charities

"Everyone undergoing an implant should have a Janet! I found her help and support invaluable. My family and friends were very supportive, but only someone who has been through the same experience can really understand. She helped me so much and my implant has given me my life back."
