Advanced Surgical Workshop I - Surgical approach and electrode choice for extended CI indication Oct 2012

<< Return to classroom course list

Course Date:
Mon, 01-Oct-2012 - Tue, 02-Oct-2012
Cost:
600 Euro, excl. VAT

This course will be given in collaboration with leading surgeons in cochlear implantation.

Surgeons have a choice of approach: cochleostomy or round window, depending upon their patient's unique characteristics - anatomy, amount of residual low frequency hearing etc. Dependent upon the choice of surgical approach, there is also a choice of electrode design.

During this course, the key issues regarding this decision process and extended CI candidacy criteria are adressed in both formal presentation and extensive temporal bone drilling. The practical aspects of this workshop will focus on the round window approach and insertion techniques required for two different electrode designs. A step-by-step plan of the surgery with each electrode array will be presented and will serve as a guideline for the temporal bone drilling.

At the end of the course, all participants will have received detailed information and hands-on training on round window surgical approach and available electrode design choices.

This course will provide information on:

  • Patient criteria and selection of surgical approach and electrode design considerations
  • The surgical procedure specific to the round window approach
  • The Nucleus electrode array portfolio
  • Clinical performance and research overview
  • Discussion and sharing of experiences
Who should attend?:
ENT surgeons who have at least one year of personal surgical experience in implanting Nucleus Cochlear implants and who wish to learn more about round window surgery and electrode design choices.
