Meet Mia Tasillo

At eight months old, Mia was often preoccupied with her hands. She never babbled, and the most she ever said was mmm and aaa. Her parents knew something was wrong and sought help. Soon afterwards Mia was diagnosed as being profoundly deaf.

Mia was fitted with hearing aids, but she didnt receive any benefit from them. Looking for another option, Mias parents learned about a cochlear implant. At 12 months old, Mias cochlear implant was activated.

We often say that she is now a totally different child. Looking at her baby pictures, we see the blank sadness in her eyes, and now that sadness is gone, says Mias mom. Four months after activation, she began babbling to her toys and said her first words: mama and more. The implant truly has been a miracle. We no longer think of Mia as a deaf child. Life actually is pretty normal.
