SmartSound™ 2, Sound Processor

If you or your child has a hearing problem, everday environments such as the classrooms, work, shopping centres, listening to music and daily life can each present their own challenges.

Cochlear's innovative and unique SmartSound 2 is a sound enhancement technology that responds to the listening environment to deliver optimal hearing in challenging and noisy situations.

People with normal hearing are able to hear a wide range of sounds in difficult listening environments, because the ear and brain work together to adapt to the surroundings. However, many people with hearing implants are unable to achieve this level of adaptability.

But thanks to SmartSound 2, you or your child can also enjoy the best hearing.

The best hearing in every situation1

SmartSound 2 includes four hearing environments to suit different listening situations. The Everyday setting automatically adjusts to a wide range of situations to optimise the sound. This is the program you would use most of the time, and for young children it is recommended that only the Everyday SmartSound 2 program is used. For adults there are three additional power programs available to help with the most challenging listening environments - Noise, Focus and Music.

Everyday

The Everyday setting is the 'regular' setting which you or your child would use most of the time. It is designed for everyday settings such as at home, at school or at work. This setting automatically adjusts to the sounds in the environment and optimises the sound signal to hear clearly. Just set, forget and away you go!

For adults and older children there are three additional power programs that can be made available for extremely challenging listening situations. These programs are Noise, Focus and Music.

Noise

Designed to reduce, but not block out, busy background noise on all sides, like at a big sports game crowd or crossing a busy road.

Focus

Designed to make it easier for you to understand a person in front of them even when there’s a significant amount of background noise, like in a loud classroom or the playground.

Music

Designed to enhance your child’s music experience whether they’re learning an instrument, listening to their favourite songs or watching a live show.

  1. Your audiologist has access to Custom Sound™ Suite 3.0 - specific software developed by Cochlear to enable SmartSound 2 and other features, and will be able to provide you advice on when to use the programs.
