Frequently asked questions

Who are Cochlear Awareness Network volunteers?
CAN volunteers are people who's lives have been changed by a cochlear implant or Baha bone conduction implant.  They are either recipients of a Cochlear hearing solution themselves or parents / family of a recipient.

CAN volunteers operate on an entirely voluntary basis.

What is the role of a CAN Volunteer?
Volunteers are here to share their knowledge and raise awareness about hearing loss solutions by telling their personal story. They cannot make decisions for anyone but they can help provide insights or assist an individual in finding the right answers.

CAN volunteers are also a fantastic resource for recipients - particularly when it comes to providing tips and hints for getting the most out of your hearing solution.

What advice and support can a CAN volunteer give me?
Having gone through the process already, CAN volunteers understand what living with a hearing loss, or having a child with a hearing loss means.  While CAN volunteers cannot give medical advice, they can offer something truly unique - a first-hand account of what to expect throughout the entire process from assessment, switch on and daily life.
